High uric acid levels, or hyperuricemia, can lead to kidney stones and gout. While not a direct cause of kidney disease like diabetes or hypertension, it can worsen existing conditions. Extremely high levels, often seen in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, may cause acute kidney failure.
